City of Jerichow, district Klietznick, Memorial Stone in front of the church

Hauptstraße, 39319 Jerichow, OT Klietznick

A memorial stone was put in front of the church in 1995 as a reminder of the cruelties during the Second World War. The inscription says: "We must remember, because if we don't, everything may happen again." In April, 1945, the district of Klietznick was caught between the front lines of the Soviets and Americans. Finally the white flag was hoisted here on April 26th in 1945, and the bombardment stopped. Citizens meet at the memorial stone once a year – they want to set a sign against any kind of war.
